Typically, the group of esterquat is one of the most commonly used cationic surfactants for production of fabric softeners mainly produced by the reaction of fatty acids derived from animal oils with triethanolamine and monoethanolamine. It is converted into quaternary ammonium salt by dimethyl sulphate and benzyl chloride.
